Pluperfect – from the Latin, plus quam perfectum – more than perfect

Old master or contemporary work of art, antique, vintage, second hand, collectable, all those sales and acquisitions from auctions, specialist dealers, junk shops, charity shops, eBay and so on – It is all recycling, re-using, upcycling, repurposing, or perhaps, in the case of the greatest works of arts, simply re-locating. Disappointingly, this website is not about them, although we are inveterate treasure hunters who always live in hope.

Pluperfect Presents is all about treasure: finds, unusual, interesting, beautiful, curious, fun, or just odd, one-offs found here and there in auctions countrywide, recognised as something better or  more desirable than anyone has noticed. When we can travel again, there will be interesting odds and ends picked up along the way. We decided ourselves to start only giving presents that had already had a life, it adds something extra that unknown history.  We hope other people might enjoy a different sort of added value too.

If you have a grandchild who would rather have a stuffed crocodile’s head than a remote- controlled car, or another who likes anything that sparkles, rhinestones apply, this is the way to go. For adults, there are the minor drawings and paintings, perhaps by a well-known artist or just intrinsically appealing; the Chinese pieces that might not be very old but are beautiful, the stunning single old glass or piece of porcelain, a pair of unusual Indian earrings gleaming with polki cut diamonds, a Persian miniature, a pretty Turkish bowl, or a charming small French 19th century bronze, of Napoleon’s only legitimate son or someone else’s dog.

 

Each piece will come with its story as far as we know it.  Attributions will either be just that or will be verified by an independent expert of note.  If you like trawling through catalogues and old stuff near and far, you may already be doing all this yourself. If not, we can do it for you and hope to find the treasures you want, including searching for specific objects like that crocodile head, if asked.  Prices are aimed at present level. That does not always mean inexpensive/  They reflect the intrinsic value of the piece, the purchase price, and any other costs.

Many of our paintings are re-framed for sale by the wonderful Christopher Markham of QED Framing in Oare, Wiltshire https://qedframing.co.uk/  We are leaving some pictures as they arrive with us in their perfectly respectable but not always suitable frames. We can arrange re-framing by QED on request to suit your own taste and at cost, receipted to you. We can also advise on the hanging or re-hanging of your pictures by Hangman (info@hang-man.co.uk)
