The world tour this week starts in Damascus…….

Trevor Haddon (1864-1941). Arab street scene with figures before a minaret.

Arab street scene with figures before a minaret (possibly the artist's impression of the Sinan Pasha mosque in Damascus) in a highly decorative modern gilt ribbon crested frame. Image 68 x 50cm. From the collection of a London based Middle Eastern family, this is a serious painting.

Arthur Trevor Haddon, painter, illustrator, and watercolourist, was born in London and won a scholarship to study at the Slade School of Art, and thereafter in Madrid.  He lived in London, Rome and Cambridge and travelled widely, exhibiting at the RBA, RA and RI.  He was a portraitist of note and well known for his scenes of life in Southern Europe and as an orientalist – a narrative painter whose images are scenes from stories with endings to be imagined.
