Who is this soldier?

Oil on board.19th or early 20th Century. Mounted, glazed and framed portrait 10 x 14cms (22 x 26 Framed).

Portraits of unknown soldiers are not something we would expect to acquire, or much like, but this one, small as it is, is beautifully made and crammed with character and the sense of the individual portrayed. He has been identified as an officer of the Northamptonshire Regiment whose battle honours in South Africa, in the Zulu and 2nd Anglo-Boer War, and on the North West Frontier in India all fit the image. Beyond that, he should have his story. We can’t help thinking that someone will know who he is or see a family likeness.
