These little miniatures, which often appear in auctions with images of important historical Indian figures, such as Maharajah Ranjit Singh, Mughal emperors, sometimes their famous wives, or depict sites of known historical interest in India, were made during the 19th century for early tourists to India or for expatriate residents to send home. They vary considerably in quality. This of the relatively rarely illustrated Golden Temple in Amritsaris a particularly nice example.
