An Indian miniature painting, 20 x 16cm, framed and glazed.  This 20th century miniature, possibly after an earlier painting on ivory, purports to be on bone but we think  it is on a man made material which might be to its advantage.  It is a charmingly painted scene of male figures seated round a pipe and may be a representation of Emperor Akbar at one of the gatherings he held at Fatehpur Sikiri to learn about other religious faiths. On occasion these included Christians represented by Jesuit priests, as well as Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists.
