Signed by Ramesh Bahadur Chitrakar, 59 x89cm
There is something about this rope bridge disappearing into infinity and those reluctant sheep that conjures up a wealth of faintly preternatural mountain images. It is currently horribly framed which does it no favours at all, on the other hand, it is more transportable and less immediately expensive in this overtight frame than in the something larger we would like better. We are inclined to hope someone likes the painting and the framing of that someone’s choice can come later with our framer or yours.
The artist is from the well-known Chitrakar caste from the Newar community of the Kathmandu valley who have traditionally been painters and artists for many generations, Probably their most famous scion was Tej Bahadur Chitrakar, one of the pioneers of contemporary art in Nepal, who studied at the college of Fine Art in Calcutta and brought a Westernised influence to add to the traditional art of Nepal.
