Feliks Topolski 1907-1989 was a prolific Polish born painter who became a British citizen. He was a war artist and his Chronicles, published fortnightly between 1953 and 1979, are a remarkable pictorial record of that period. He travelled widely and his observations in sketches and finished works range from politicians to paupers, and, famously, the vast mural, commissioned for Buckingham Palace by Prince Philip, of the Coronation in 1953. This little drawing is powerfully atmospheric. We would love to hear if anyone thinks they know where its poor and patched subject might be crouching to keep out of the wintry wind.
